Coffee beans

The name coffee derives from the name of its place of origin, Kaffa, located in southwestern Ethiopia. It is believed that "coffee bean" is the anglicization of "Kaffa Bunna." The traditional coffee ceremony is considered a central cultural custom and an important social occasion in both Ethiopia and Eritrea.

According to their culture, green coffee beans are washed and freshly roasted in a pan over a small charcoal stove. The smoky aroma of the roasted coffee is considered an appetizer for the delicious coffee that is served a few minutes later.

The beans are then ground by hand and placed in a traditional coffee pot made of special clay called a "jebena" to be brewed with water over an open fire. After the correct brewing time, the jebena is removed from the heat for one to two minutes to allow the coffee to settle before drinking. A true delight!
